ST acquires embedded GUI specialist

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed but ST said it intends to extend the STM32 microcontroller ecosystem with TouchGFX

TouchGFX is a software framework offering graphics and animations for embedded GUIs that need to run on minimal resources – such as 32bit microcontrollers rather than dedicated GPUs. Even under these conditions TouchGFX can deliver graphics similar to smartphone capabilities for use in smart home and building automation systems, appliances, wearables, and audio and video systems. Several of the STM32 product lines already support TouchGFX.

"We have been working closely with the team for five years and regularly see the value TouchGFX is already delivering on STM32 MCUs in different consumer, appliances, industrial, and medical applications, said Daniel Colonna, microcontroller marketing director at STMicroelectronics, in a statement. "The acquisition of Draupner Graphics will accelerate both TouchGFX and STM32 roadmaps to offer embedded developers and their customers more advanced features, raising the bar of human-machine interfaces across all of the devices that people interact with every day."
