Autonomous cars will be drivers'eyes and ears

Apr. 25, 2018 –

The University of Warwick's Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) will contribute connected, autonomous driving systems skills to the AutopleX project to develop autonomous vehicles that can "see" around corners and through obstacles.

The £4.7m project is funded by Innovate UK and led by Jaguar Land Rover, to combine connected and live mapping technology for fully- and semi-automated vehicle technologies. As well as simulation, there will be road testing on motorways and in towns in the West Midlands.

Using vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems, physical and virtual validation and cyber security, the project will allow self-driving cars to 'see' and 'talk' to each other. Other partners are Highways England, INRIX, Ricardo, Siemens, and Transport for West Midlands.
