Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 Will Be Manufactured Using TSMC's 7nm Node; Chip Giant Will Return To Samsung In 2019

Dec. 22, 2017 –

We've got big news in semiconductors today. Looks like Samsung will take a major hit next year. The Korean tech giant's chip manufacturing has soared to new heights lately. With Qualcomm as its partner, the Korean tech giant dominates when it comes to having its hardware featured in devices. However, this won't always be the case. Earlier this year some news troubling news made its way on the rumor mill. Some sources claimed that Qualcomm will take its chip business away from Samsung. Now, we've got more on this. Take a look below to find out more.

Qualcomm Will Shift To TSMC As Its Primary Manufacturing Partner Next Year For High-End Chips

When we talk about Android flagship processors, only two lineups come to mind. Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragons and Samsung's high-end Exynos. Both have competed almost evenly in terms of performance, although Samsung's processors do often have a slight edge in benchmark scores. A while back news surfaced that the Korean tech giant will 'skip' basic 7nm. Instead, it'll take a step back and proceed with a full stride in 2018 – to dominate the market by 2022.

Now, fresh reports from Nikkei about Qualcomm making the switch to TSMC start to complete the picture. According to its sources, TSMC will manufacture the Snapdragon 855 on its 7nm process. Qualcomm will shift production to the Taiwanese fab. It's a big win for TSMC, which already has all of Apple's orders for Cupertino's A series gadget processors. However, this co-operation will not last long.
