Bluetooth low energy smart sportswatch tracks distance covered, steps taken, and calories burned via partner iOS and Android smartphone app

The new 'H03 Pro-N' smart sportswatch from Trasense International uses Nordic Semiconductor's nRF52832 SoC to wirelessly report a range of exercise metrics

Oslo, Norway , Apr. 11, 2017 – Nordic Semiconductor today announces that China-based smart wearables company, Trasense International, has launched its 'H03 Pro-N' smart sportswatch, employing Nordic's nRF52832 System-on-Chip (SoC) to provide the device with Bluetooth® low energy wireless connectivity.

Manufactured from stainless steel, the H03 Pro-N has a stylish analog display but offers both smartwatch and sportswatch functionality. The device measures distance covered, steps taken, and calories burned, as well as providing an incoming phone call reminder, call rejection, smart alarm, and remote smartphone camera operation. Using the nRF52832 SoC's Bluetooth low energy wireless connectivity, exercise data is synced to the user's Bluetooth 4.0 (and later) smartphone or tablet, from where the iOS- and Android-compatible Trasense app the user can review their performance and set alarm notifications and daily goals, for example a certain number of steps.

The watch face features five LEDs to indicate progress towards a daily goal. When a daily goal is achieved, the watch vibrates and all five LEDs are illuminated. The user can also press the function button on the watch at any time to check their progress towards their goal, or to trigger the 'find my phone' and 'one button SOS' panic alarm functions. When the user receives an incoming call on their smartphone the device vibrates three times, when the alarm is triggered it vibrates six times.

Weighing 54g and with a 42 by 10.2mm form factor, the water resistant H03-Pro-N employs a rechargeable 100mAh Li-Poly battery that provides up to 50 days standby time between recharges, thanks in part to the ultra low power consumption of the nRF52832 SoC. The nRF52832 SoC has been engineered to minimize power consumption with features such as the 2.4GHz radio's 5.5mA peak RX/TX currents and a fully-automatic power management system that reduces power consumption by up to 80 percent compared with Nordic's nRF51 Series SoCs. The result is a Bluetooth low energy solution which offers 58 CoreMark/mA, up to twice as power efficient as competing devices.

Nordic's nRF52832 Bluetooth low energy SoC, a member of Nordic's sixth generation of ultra low power (ULP) wireless connectivity solutions, combines a 64MHz, 32-bit Arm® Cortex® M4F processor with a 2.4GHz multiprotocol radio (supporting Bluetooth 5, ANT™ and proprietary 2.4GHz RF software) featuring -96dB RX sensitivity, with 512kB Flash memory and 64kB RAM. When launched, the SoC was the world's highest performance single-chip Bluetooth low energy solution, delivering up to 60 percent more generic processing power, offering 10 times the Floating Point performance and twice the DSP performance compared to competing solutions.

"One of the key reasons we selected the nRF52832 SoC was its multiprotocol support which dramatically reduced the time we had to spend in the development process," says Shawn Hsu, Trasense Assistant to the CEO. "The ability to perform over-the-air firmware updates has also saved us a lot of time in software development."
