China driving Arm-based server market

"The market has not been this interesting for more than a decade," says Applied Micro's marketing vp John Williams, "Intel has 95/7% market share and monopoly means there there is very little innovation and very little price competition."
Meanwhile there's a move away from PowerPC and MIPS in the embedded world - enterprise networking, storage systems, telecom infrastructure and industrial automation and control - where there's a "rapid" transition to Arm, says Williams.
Applied Micro (APM) wants to change all that with X-Gene - the world's first 64-bit Arm server SoC, and Helix - the world's first 64-bit Arm embedded SoC.
